Reba McEntire is the queen of country, but she’s passing the torch on “The Voice.”
Team Reba singer Ruby Leigh delivered a soaring rendition of the McEntire ballad “You Lie” during the first round of live shows Monday night. The top 12 contestants each took to the stage for a solo performance that will determine who advances to the Season 24 semifinals.
The teen vocalist’s emotive singing won over Leigh superfan coach Niall Horan.
“There hasn’t been a time that you’ve performed on this show where I haven’t got goosebumps. That was special the way you sold that story,” Horan said. “I loved that you (were) looking over at Reba for approval. It was a really cute little moment between coach and singer, but Ruby you are insane.”
Leigh’s performance also earned a seal of approval from McEntire, who was moved to tears by the 16-year-old’s cover of her 1990 hit.
“You blew it out of the water. It was absolutely spectacular,” McEntire said. “The best thing you can do is connect with the person when you’re singing. You definitely did. Gwen and I are bawling.”
Here’s what else went down on Monday’s episode.

Team Gwen singer BIAS makes Reba McEntire envious with Johnny Cash cover
Country-soul singer BIAS got in touch with his inner rock god for a fiery rendition of “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” by Johnny Cash.
Decked out in a pair of sparkly, black dress slacks and embroidered blazer, the Tennessee vocalist commanded the stage as pyrotechnics blazed behind him.
The lively performance even drew some good-hearted envy from McEntire, who turned for BIAS during his blind audition earlier in the season.
“That’s the reason why I wanted you on my team,” McEntire said. “My gosh, you’re good. Way to go, that’s a wonderful performance.”
Meanwhile, coach Gwen Stefani praised BIAS for his individuality as an artist.
“It’s like a dream that you’re on my team and that we have this connection,” Stefani said. “You just keep being you. You are the purest person I’ve ever met.”
